What is the whole you are leading for?

One of the most powerful questions in FED that gets me thinking bigger is: “What is the whole that you are leading for?” It’s a question that can take already successful leaders to a bigger place or context for their leadership. Sometimes it has leaders thinking about their legacy, what they want to be known and remembered for; what they want people who have never met them to be hearing about them. Sometimes it’s about developing leadership in others for the future; paying attention to not only developing people but to consciously developing them as leaders. For some and indeed for me it’s about the wider context rather than focusing on the immediate one…. it can be about taking a wider view of the company, the sector, industry and, or taking a global perspective.

People that know me might say that I have a rather unhealthy obsession with tennis! Playing has been a big part of that, but recently various wear and tear injuries have begun to slow me up. So after quite a lot of frustration, soul searching and asking myself what is the whole I am leading for I have found a new motivation for myself in tennis. The whole in this context for me has become getting people who would never go near a tennis club playing the game across the UK and I have become very involved in the charity Tennis for Free. It was set up to encourage people without the economic means to get involved in the game across the UK. If you want to know more please visit the following website www.tennisforfree.com
